Certified Kitchen Designers (CKDs)  specialize in the design, planning, and execution of kitchens, bathrooms, and other built-in units throughout the home. Only a select group of expert designers attain the CKD designations, which are not mandatory for practicing kitchen design.

Because of their specialized training, CKDs hold a distinct place in the interior design profession. Just as interior designers, CKDs must meet common educational requirements, adhere to various legal restrictions & follow a professional code of ethics. Award-winning designer Lloyd Long knows that more than a pencil or ruler, being a good listener is the most important tool in a designer’s toolbox. Without it, the design goes nowhere. With it, a designer is able to translate the information he’s heard into a space that’s a functional and artistic creation.

Lloyd Long is a designer who has nearly 20 years of listening to his credit. He started in the industry as a carpenter, with experience as a framer for new home construction, general remodeling, and kitchen installation.

often complicated, very personal spaces.

You may also encounter two other designations: Associate Kitchen & Bathroom Designer (AKBD) and Certified Master Kitchen & Bathroom Designer (CMKBD). The AKBD designation requires two years experience and the passage of a special exam and represents the first step toward attaining the CKD designation. The CMKBD designation is the highest certification level offered, reflecting at least 10 years of experience and continuing education.

Just as he combined his love for the technical & the artistic in college, majoring in math and art, Lloyd paired his practical knowledge of construction with the artistry of design 13 years ago. A certified kitchen designer (CKD) and member of the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA), Lloyd’s dedication to education and industry ethics and guidelines meets with a commitment to staying in the know about the latest trends and product innovations.
